Empire film academy is a Nigeria Film Academy where you learn film making by making films. From day one, we throw you in at the deep end, and through a carefully constructed cycle of reflection and access to appropriate resources, skills, and information, we help you to develop as filmmakers.

While the programs are intensely practical, we knit your production experience together with an active education in professional industry practice and in the vocabulary and conventions prevalent in the industry, which enable us to communicate and work with one another effectively.

We have launched the new Practical Filmmaking, which is a unique genre-focused course consisting of eight units, six of which are built around a film you make – one fiction, one documentary, one experimental, one TV pilot, one feature film (of which you shoot an extract) and one other genre piece.

We have also increased our range of HD cameras and shooting equipment, created more teaching rooms and shooting spaces, and created more editing stations and post-production suites.
Whichever programme you choose, whether it’s long or short, general or specialist, PPC or a treat to yourself, we look forward to welcoming you to the school, and working with you as you navigate your path through the wonderful and complex world of film.

Focused on your career
You need to understand the film world to work in it, which is why we operate in a professional manner and have industry-standard expectations. Our call times are strict and those on our Practical filmmaking programme who demonstrate high professional standards will be awarded our Professional Practice Certificate and access to our Industry Placement Scheme.

We encourage professional development both while you’re at Empire Film Academy and once you’ve completed your course. Students and alumni are able to take part in our monthly Empire Film Pitch Forum, which allows you to pitch your project ideas to the Empire Film Production team. We also actively support students looking to submit their work to film festivals and hold an annual showcase where members of the industry are invited to view select student films.

Your experience will challenge you mentally, physically and emotionally. But we promise that it will be stimulating, fun and immensely rewarding. Whichever programme you choose, you can be assured that it has been designed to meet the needs of today’s film and media industries.

All courses are developed in consultation with industry partners and in line with Skillset’s vocational standards.
